Elevator Pitch and Derby Party Announcement

It’s time for Mama Kat’s Writers’ Workshop! Here’s my “Elevator Pitch” and a special announcement:

Like many blogs, mine started out as a way to share pictures of my kids and details of our day-to-day lives with friends and family. That was almost six months ago, and already it has become about sharing so much more! I’m sharing recipes and tips on being frugal while polishing up my photography and creative writing skills. There’s an occasional spiritual discussion, a book review here and there, and probably more pictures of my dog than are strictly necessary. It’s part chat with a girlfriend over a glass of sweet tea, part conversation overheard in the grocery store checkout line, and part Thanksgiving dinner with the crazy branch of the family.

I am ridiculously nosy, and so love following other people’s blogs – now it’s time for me to return the favor and give them something they’ll really enjoy. I’m throwing a two-week long Blog Derby Party this year and everyone’s invited!

  1. I am so excited about your Derby Party. What a great way to exchange traditional Derby recipes and give and get Derby party tips and just general Derby information.

Unless you are from the Central Kentucky area most folks don't realize that Derby is a 2 week event, not a one minute race. Great idea!

  2. Never heard of a Derby party before–you exchange recipes and party tips?

  3. Wow, I've never been to a Derby party. Heck, I've never even heard of one. Sounds interesting! Stopping by from Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop!

  4. Isn't blogging fun? It is amazing how a blog and morph and change the more you do it … and what fun you can have poking around in other people's blogs.

  5. Another visitor from Mama Kat's Writer Workshop here. Great shot up there but I am completely clueless about your derby party 🙂 Sounds like fun tho'

  6. "It's part chat with a girlfriend . . . crazy branch of the family" is the best description of a blog I've read in a long time!

  7. I grew up in Louisville. After Christmas, Easter and the 4th of July, you have Derby!

I hosted a going-away party for friends on Derby Day while living in another state. I grew my mint and created my mint/sugar syrup, served my mint julips in my silver julip cups. My friend's husband commented, "These are really good when you get to the bottom." I remember thinking, "Yeah, ANything would taste great when you get to the bottom of a mint julip!
