Creepy Creations ~ Yard Ghosts

We’ve never lived on a street with lots of kids, where everyone decorates like crazy for Halloween and gives out mountains of candy – I wish we did! But I usually do try to decorate enough to make it clear to anyone passing by that we’re feeling the “spirit” of the season.  These are my favorite yard decorations.  They are made out of tobacco cottons thrown over tobacco stick and chicken-wire frames.  The best part is that the cottons are such a light gauze that the slightest breeze sets them in motion – very eerie!  The last year I put these out was very windy, though, and every day after work I had to spend time tracking down my ghosts, which were often several houses down the street.  I haven’t put these out in a few years since tobacco cottons are rarely used anymore and I’ve been unable to find replacements.  Anyone have a stack in a barn they’d be willing to part with?  I’d love to put my ghosties out again!

I’m linking this up to Mama Kat’s Writers’ Workshop on Thursday and to the Celebrate Halloween SITS Shutterfly Contest this weekend – BOO!

  1. coming by from Mama Kat’s…
I love Halloween. It’s my favorite day of the year for several reasons, but I love the decorations the most.
We live at the end of a private drive about 350 feet long so we don’t get trick-or-treaters and no one can see the decorations in the front yard so… I haven’t taken the time to do any the past few years.
This year I put out scarecrows and some lovely mums and some pumpkins and lights…
no one else may get to see them, but they sure do make me feel good!

  2. What a great idea. I have lots of tobacco sticks come help yourself.
Be glad they were not up before the storm a couple of days ago they would have been in Maine.

    1. Not in the South necessarily, but in the country for sure. Your best bet would be a farm supply store for the cottons and you could improvise for the sticks – maybe stacked tomato cages?

  3. We have tons of kids on our street and in our hood. We have have a party at our house every year. I like dressing up in fun costumes. Not scary ones, fun ones. Last year I was Pipi Longstockings. This year I’m Katy Perry. The kids in the hood love it. Mine don’t appreciate it the way I think they should. Ingrates.

  4. These are so cute! I don’t blame you for not wanting them to get damaged by the wind. I can’t wait to have my own home with a front yard so I can decorate too!

  5. Those are cool. We don’t have trick or treaters in our neighborhood, so we save money on candy every year. Of course I’d probably hand out organic apples instead, and would get our house toilet papered LOL.

    Peace,

  6. My partner and I really enjoyed reading this blog post, I was just itching to know do you trade featured posts? I am always trying to find someone to make trades with and merely thought I would ask.
