NaNoWriMo

I’m writing a book.  Have I mentioned I’m writing a book?  I’m writing a book, and I’m writing it THIS MONTH.  Yeah, there’s this NaNoWriMo thing going on, and evidently a significant potion of the civilized world writes a book every November – who knew?  So I decided to join in since I was feeling so great and had so much time on my hands.  Because everyone is at their most creative when they are in constant pain and under enormous stress at work.  And since the reasonable way to do this would be very quietly and privately so that no one knows if I give up halfway through, well, I’m shouting it from the rooftops.  I bought the freakin’ shirt, people!  Friends and family members ask me about “the book” in those same calm, careful tones you use to ask a pre-schooler where his imaginary friend is so that you don’t sit on him.  People in the know ask me my word count.  It takes 1,667 words a day to get to the 50,000 required for a “successful” NaNoWriMo.  I’m ahead of pace right now, but there’s a little voice in the back of my mind telling me by about the 20th I’ll be sitting at the computer typing “monkey, monkey, monkey” and giggling hysterically.

  1. I have all the confidence in the world that you will have this completed ahead of schedule.

Have you noticed Michael and John have been gone for a week and Aaron has moved to Key West?

  2. Hi! I’m stopping by from the Monday Mingle!

I’ve seen a lot about the NaNoWriMo thing! Sounds like a ton of work! Good luck! Sounds like you’re off to a great start.

  3. Hi, Angie. You are a brave woman to embark on such a writing adventure! I think it is great that you are participating in this challenge because it will definitely help you to flex your writing muscles and increase your writing stamina. I am already a loyal follower but I am passing by from Monday Mingle too.

  4. Ha! Ha! “Monkey, monkey” sounds like a good phrase for me to mutter when I start getting irritated at my children.

Keep us updated on the progress of your writing!

  5. Good for you! You can do it…just keep pluggin’ away. I’ve always wanted to write a book…I’ve even had several people tell me I should do it. I think the idea of it flopping keeps me from trying. So in my wuss-out fashion, I’m going to live vicariously through you; rooting you on; and hoping for your success!!!
