Dumplings ~ It’s Not Thanksgiving Without Them

Here’s my menu for Thanksgiving 2010:

Honey Brined Deep Fried Turkey (combining several brining and deep frying recipes, flying by the seat of my pants)

Crock Pot Stuffing (using this technique, but my aunt’s recipe)

Leaf-Shaped Dumplings:  Easy-peasy!  Just mix 2 cups Bisquick, 2 tsp salt, 2 eggs, and 2 Tbsp milk (more or less).  Mix with fork until no longer sticky.  Roll out to about 1/4 inch thick, cut with cute little cutter (I like the leaf-shaped one from the Pampered Chef set), and drop into boiling broth.  Cook until plump.

Warm Sweet Potato Salad

Broccoli-Berry Salad

Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Giblet Gravy

Scalloped Corn

Buttery Bread Machine Rolls

Cranberry Sauce (straight out of the can – my boys would eat this every meal if I’d let them)

Pumpkin Cream Pie

Derby Pie

I have never before used these particular recipes for mashed potatoes, gravy, or pumpkin pie – how’s that for brave?  Of course all three are from The Pioneer Woman – her Thanksgiving Throwdown with Bobby Flay inspired me.

  1. Sounds wonderful! I’m going to try the Sweet, Buttery Rolls, but you know how I am with my bread machine. I’ll be calling to see where the dough setting is.

I see nothing green is going to pass Michael’s lips for Thanksgiving.

    1. The label on that machine is awful. I think I’m going to look at it with a magnifying glass, write it out on a card, and tape it to the front. And no, nothing green for Michael. God forbid!

  2. Hmm … it’s safe to say I will not be cooking on Thanksgiving. We have still yet to decide where we are going. (not type A, not type A, not type A)

I may stop by your house after the run.
