A Cup of Wassail + a Snuggly Dog = A Good Evening

by Angie on December 5, 2010

I was feeling more than a little jealous of everyone who had posted on Facebook or on their blog about having their tree up and decorated, their shopping done and presents wrapped, cards in the mail, yada, yada, yada.  Until today I hadn’t done anything.  Yeah, I’d ordered some presents, but that was about it.  So I’m proud to say that I’m finally out of the starting gate. Michael, Aaron, and John took Sam with them today to get a tree.  She nearly pulled both Michael and Aaron’s arms out of the socket, was petted by several little girls, and lost her doggy mind with excitement over the tree.  Now she’s a bit tired.

She just lounged on the couch while we decorated the tree and watched Christmas movies.  I still have some decorating to do and some presents to buy or make, but with a cup of wassail in my hands I’m feeling like it’s all going to be OK.  In case you don’t have a recipe for wassail here you go: Dump all this in a crock pot and put a ladle and cups nearby.  Your house will smell wonderful and you will have discovered a new Christmas treat and a new tradition!

2 cups tea

2 cups cranberry juice

2 cups apple juice

1 cup orange juice

1/3 cup lemon juice

1/2 cup sugar

12 cloves

2 cinnamon sticks

Float slices of apple or orange in it if you want to really get fancy.

A big splash of brandy in your cup before pouring in the wassail doesn’t hurt either. You know, just because it’s cold outside and it’s Christmas.

Aww, don’t fell bad about taking your time getting out of the gate. We still don’t have our tree up, but plan on getting it this weekend. I do have almost everyone bought for, though: if I didn’t get a jump start on the trips to the North Pole, then I’d be a mess right about now. ; )
