January 3 in 30 Wrap-Up

It’s time for an end-of-the-month eval for my 3 in 30 goals for January.  I’m calling the month a success.  I not only finished my writing class, but I submitted my manuscript (with a nicely done query letter and synopsis) to a publisher this month!  I made getting 8 hours sleep several nights a week a habit, and although I’m not seeing any changes from that yet I suspect it’s probably because I’ve been sleep-deprived for so long it will take a longer than average time for me to see results.  The housecleaning / FlyLady thing didn’t go as well as I’d hoped, but I didn’t get so frustrated I ditched the whole plan, either.  I got some fabulous suggestions and encouraging words from other 3 in 30 participants, and I DID make progress, so I’m happy with that.  How did you guys do?

  1. I’m visiting from 3 in 30!! Congrats on a successful month!!! I’m just starting in Feb!! One of my goals involves a flylady type cleaning pattern too (inspired by many 3 in 30 tweets I saw last month).

    1. It’s interesting how many people have cleaning / housekeeping goals, isn’t it? It makes me feel like maybe I’m not so alone in my frustration! Good luck in Feb – I’ll be checking up on you!

  2. Good job!! From one sleep-deprived gal to another, it will take a while before you notice the benefits. I used to think I couldn’t go to bed before 10 pm. Now, I’m in bed some nights as early as 7:30 pm. My body is just now beginning to get “caught up” on all the sleep I did without last year. Re: FlyLady…I like her, but she’s also very overwhelming. I recently signed back up to receive her emails and whew! Talk about major overwhelm!! I just unsubbed a few days ago. I bought the S.H.E. book and am reading through that right now. I think it will be much more doable for me. I’d already created a 3×5 tickler file, but I’m going to update it once I finish reading the book.

    2. I’m so glad to hear that I will eventually feel better if I can keep up the improved sleep habits. It’s a bit scary how long it takes, though – makes me wonder if sleep deprivation isn’t a lot more harmful than we realize 🙁

    1. Just got home from work and was checking my comments – you were doing everything right, but for some reason it kept sending your comments to “spam”. And of course the spammy ones were posting! I guess even good plug-ins have off days 😛 I’m so glad you kept trying! Yeah, clutter is my main housekeeping issue, as well. In fact, I have so many books on de-cluttering that they themselves have become clutter – sigh!

  4. Congrats! You get more done than anyone I know anyway. I am glad you are getting more rest, that’s more important than anything. I’m so happy about your book.

    1. I can’t buy into the entire FlyLady concept, either. For instance, I truly do not care if my sink shines – EVER. I like the way it’s organized, though – just need to make it “mine”.

  5. Fly lady overwhelmed me with either WAY TOO MANY EMAILS – like seriously, nuts! Or hardly any at all. There was no happy medium for me. Did you check out Sam’s box? The first week of 3 in 30 she made this box which was so great we asked and she did this tutorial for us:

    I just love her for it. Now I still need to go buy the box and the dividers, but I am going to do it!

    1. LOVE the box! I’m very visual, so that sort of thing really works for me. I’ve been using an app for the iPhone called Home Routines, and it’s pretty much the same thing as The Box, just as an app. Still requires setup and personalization, but I think that’s a good investment time-wise!

  6. You know I’m super duper proud of you ….. even if we will be Fly Fetuses (Feti?) until we’re both 50.
