Very few things are able to put me off my feed, but the combination of antibiotics I was on between surgeries did the trick. I knew I needed fluids, and I needed protein, but nothing sounded good. We had a big watermelon we needed to use up, so I made a couple of “experiments”. First off is the watermelon water pictured above. I hate the taste of plain water, but the fruit-flavored waters I’d been drinking weren’t appealing anymore, either. So this is just watermelon chunks and ice dumped into a big glass jug and filled with water. If I’d had a lemon handy I’d have sliced that into it, too. Just a hint of flavor – perfect for hot summer days.
Then I made watermelon smoothies. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture. They were pink. All the recipes I found involved ice cream or shaved ice, neither of which I wanted, so I just filled my blender half-full of watermelon chunks, dumped in about 8 ounces of plain yogurt, and added about 1 Tbsp lemon juice. It was creamy, slightly tart, and VERY healthy. I think that may be my go-to treat for the summer.
Post-second-surgery addition: Switch to Greek yoghurt in the smoothie for more protein and this is a fabulous stand-alone meal for when your throat is swollen nearly closed and your stomach is in knots from steroids and MORE antibiotics

Have not tried the watermelon water, but the watermelon smoothie is fabulous. I also made one with peaches and blueberries.
Hope you are up and at ‘em again soon! Feel better!!!
I bought our first watermelon of the summer a couple of days ago. I cut up half of it, and the girls ate every last piece! They LOVE watermelon. Watermelon-flavored water sounds so refreshing.
