My Stash

I was introduced to the freezer cooking concept many years ago when we had a Dream Dinners location nearby. It closed, and I started doing freezer cooking on my own. Sometimes. When the mood struck me. Then, during the course of the past two and a half years and four major surgeries, I discovered not only the value of stockpiling meals in my freezer, but of doing the whole couponing/sales cycles thing where you build up a stash of other household essentials as well. Right now I am VERY happy to have my “stash” of food and supplies, since my short-term disability payments are now close to three weeks late and my careful financial plan for survival lies in ruins in my file cabinet. But we will eat and we will be clean!

Upstairs freezer

The things on the left are very ripe bananas, peeled and frozen. They are great for smoothies and banana bread.

Downstairs freezer

I’ve got jars of frozen basil pesto in here from my very prolific basil plants, and I’ve got four kinds of beans, cooked and frozen. This is one of my favorite frugal tips and is featured in my ebook.

Medicine cabinet

This is a small part of my drugstore shopping stockpile. In other cabinets and under all the sinks I have enough soap, mouthwash, and shampoo to last three months at least.

And then there’s my pantry which I haven’t even pictured because it needs to be organized. It’s really scary right now. It was the original kitchen in the house, so it has walls of cabinets, all full of dry and canned good, including gifts of fabulous canned treasures from my Aunt Beverly. ¬†And where the stove used to be is a shelving unit which holds paper towels, toilet paper, etc.

I’d love to have a stash of fabulous jewelry or beautiful clothes, but right now the sort of stash I have suits me just fine!

I’m linking this up to Capture the Everyday at Adventuroo for the “my stash” prompt, to the Penny Pinching Party at Thrifty Home, and to Works for Me Wednesday.
