Waiting Patiently

I am patiently (OK, not so patiently) awaiting the decision of my disability insurance company today after last week’s traumatic functionality exam.  I can’t help but think my disability payments (which are now two months late) will be approved, but CIGNA has surprised me so many times before that I really don’t know.  I have been told I will hear their decision today, though.  Please say a little prayer for me if you are so inclined.

I am so glad I was able to spend some “girl time” with friends last weekend.  We took a cruise on the Belle of Louisville, which was a huge treat for me since even though I’ve lived in Louisville since 1988 I’d never been on the historic vessel.  Even in 100 degree heat it was fun, and we witnessed one of the most romantic moments I’ve ever seen, when an elderly couple, the wife in a wheelchair, held each other, kissed, and swayed gently on the dance floor.

I spent the first part of the week recovering in my “redneck pool” (inflatable pool just big enough for a pool float) in the backyard.  I hate that any exertion at all requires at least a day or two of doing absolutely nothing, but that’s just how it is right now.

John has decided he wants to learn Japanese, so he downloaded an app onto his Kindle and is spending hours every day using it.  I hope the algebra and study skills apps I’m planning on downloading for him soon will get as much attention.

My dogs have now tasted fresh green beans, and I can only hope they will agree to go back to the canned version once my supply runs out, because I’m not growing, snapping, washing, cooking, and canning beans for my dogs.  I love them, but that’s just too much work!

I’m heading off to noon Mass early today so I can drop by the church office and pick up a packet for our family to officially become members.  I’ve been waiting until I am in better shape both physically and financially, since I really don’t feel I have much to offer the parish right now, but I’ve decided that I’m going to join anyway.  God loves me even if I can’t write a big check or do any heavy lifting.

Another of the many fun things Kim, Wendy, and I did on our girls’ trip was try out some fabulous restaurants.  Tomorrow I’ll give you a sneak peek at what I think may be Louisville’s best new restaurant!

  1. #6: Being a pastor’s wife has convinced me that I might not think I’m contributing much in terms of a tithe but I’m probably tithing more than most people are. Besides, there are ways to tithe other than money and heavy-lifting.
