This year’s flu is an ugly one: deep cough, aches, extreme fatigue, sore throat, headache, and low-grade fever. And it lasts up to two weeks. Bleh! Knock on wood, our family hasn’t been hit yet. But half my best friend’s family came down with it at once – on Christmas. I know she wishes she’d had her Sick Day Essentials on hand!
There are certain items I keep in our medicine cabinet year-round:
- Sturdy, soft tissues (like Puffs Facial Tissues with lotion)
- Vick’s VapoRub
- Vick’s NyQuil Cold and Flu Nighttime Relief (the green liquid variety)
Add plenty of liquids and a couple of favorite movies to curl up with and you’re all set for recovery!
We have a tradition of sorts in our house. When anyone has a bad cold or the flu we get out the NyQuil and the whole family gathers around to watch the unlucky patient take their dose, then we wait and watch for them to make “the NyQuil face”. This is John’s version:
I know, it sounds weird, but it adds an element of humor to a lousy day. In a houseful of males everything is a competition anyway, so “Who can last the longest without making the NyQuil face?” is a valid question. (Aaron is the current record holder.) Of course if you’re not into that sort of thing you could always buy the cherry flavor, or even the capsules. Not every family bonds over cold and flu medications.
Coincidentally, this is a great time to stock up on Sick Day Essentials like those above at Kroger. Before I went shopping I downloaded a coupon for NyQuil onto my Kroger card:
and then played a quick game that loaded even more savings onto my card!
After adding NyQuil, Puffs, and a few more of the great options in the Buy 5 Save $5 sale to my cart this is how my savings looked:
Oh, yeah! Stock up on your Sick Day Essentials at the Kroger Co. Family of Stores and save big! From December 30-January 12, use the DayQuil, NyQuil, and Nature Fusion e-saver coupons found here and save even more money by shopping for those products as part of the Buy 5 Save $5 sale.
