Gourmet S’Mores

caprese smore

It’s finally starting to get cool enough to light a fire in the fire pit in our backyard and burn up some of the brush that’s fallen over the summer.  I grew up in the country, and was dismayed to find that starting a big fire in your backyard is frowned upon in many suburban areas (OOPS!)

That means s’mores.  And while I do love the traditional Hershey bar, toasted marshmallow, graham cracker variety I was looking for a little extra pizzazz.  Maybe I’ve been watching too much Food Network.  Anyway, here are are few of the combos we tried and enjoyed:

The picture above is my Caprese S’More.  I toasted a small ball of fresh mozzarella until it was melty, and then popped it on a Triscuit with a chuck of fresh tomato and a leaf from my nearby basil plant.  YUM!

Here’s another crowd favorite:

dark choc raspberry smore

Dark chocolate, cinnamon graham cracker smeared liberally with raspberry preserves, and a toasted marshmallow (yes, I like mine charred).

We also tried Nutella in place of chocolate, which was exceptionally good on the cinnamon graham crackers.

There are a million different directions you could go with this, both sweet and savory.  I’d love to experiment more with fire-roasted vegetables, perhaps with cream cheese on mini-bagels.  The guys are thinking chocolate graham crackers, peanut butter, and jumbo marshmallows.

Let me know what your family comes up with!

    1. I’ve also thought of doing very thin slices of steak on bits of Italian bread with bleu cheese crumbles, but I think that might take a lot of practice (or very good luck) to get just right 😉
