I’m done Christmas shopping. 100% online, just as I have done for several years. Pretty much every day there’s a package from UPS or the mail carrier. I could make good use of one of those Amazon drones – they could just put everything in one big box and send their biggest drone to my yard. Of course I wouldn’t be able to get the box into the house by myself, so I’d be entertaining the neighbors with the sight of me in my jammies, standing on a stepladder to cut open the Amazon box. It’s OK – they’ve seen worse. Like the day before yesterday, when I was standing in the backyard in my pajamas yelling at Boss not to pee on his sister. Even if you’re a dog that’s just plain rude. And they’d both just had baths.
Thanksgiving was wonderful, my birthday was wonderful, and we’ve got all the decorations up except for the tree. I’m actually starting to feel a bit of the Christmas spirit this year, as opposed to the last few stressful years. This year is no less stressful, but I have things in perspective. I may think we’re going through a rough time, but every time I turn around I see someone going through something much worse, and I’m thankful for my friends and family.
I do have one gift left to “make”, and I’m a bit nervous about it. I’ve had the supplies for a week, and have been afraid to start. It’s one of those things that’s either going to look great or horrible, and so I’m just gonna cross my fingers and give it a shot. It involves paint and canvas – EEK!
I’ve been looking forward to this weekend for a long time – the Madrigal Feaste at Morehead, featuring my beautiful and talented daughter-in-law, Catherine! If you’ve never been to a Madrigal Concert and have kids old enough to sit through three hours of mesmerizing singing by students in full Renaissance costume and a multi-course meal call your local high schools and universities and get tickets. It will quickly become a family tradition.
How am I going to last through three hours? Pain pills, muscle relaxers, my old TENS unit, and a visit with my chiropractor on Monday. And even if it puts me out of commission for a couple of days it will be worth it!
For my birthday the guys got me books (as always). The latest Janet Evanovich and Stephen King. I’ve already finished the Janet Evanovich and I’m more than halfway through Stephen King. I keep forcing myself to put the book down and go do something else, but the next thing I know I’m curled up with it again. He’s addictive.
My Christmas cactus is blooming – the first bloom unfurled on my birthday, which I thought was pretty cool 😉 One of the upsides of having a December birthday 🙂
