Starting Lent Snowbound

Thankfully, before the big snowstorm hit Sunday night I went to a party. It was my friend Brittany’s first Nerium party, so the crowd was mostly friends and family. I was greeted at my car by Barkley, a huge and adorable Golden Doodle. I wanted to take him home with me, but it’s not like I could tuck him into my purse. He might not fit in some small cars. But he was a precious party dog, and snuggled with me while I laughed until I cried about Brittany, her mom, her aunt, and her grandma going to see Fifty Shades of Grey together! Who says Nerium parties aren’t fun?!

That was my last outing for the week, though. Michael is a courier, so he had to go to work every day, so I spent a lot of time worrying about his safety in the below zero temperatures and on the slick roads. No school for John all week, so he’s been my entertainment.

I love when he’s playing online games with friends and gets so involved he doesn’t remember I’m nearby. Even hearing just his side of the conversation is hilarious, and Michael and I would lie in bed at night giggling at things he said. I must say I’m impressed by his leadership potential and communication skills, but I hope he uses them for good and not evil 😉

As each new storm front has moved in I’ve had major pain issues. There have been a couple of days I’ve stayed in bed all day. Falling barometric pressure always makes my neck hurt horribly, but when it’s this cold it’s a whole new level of awful. Thankfully I’m still using my friend’s Happy Light – it’s been a Godsend this week!

I’ve had St. Michael’s novena to pray this week, and I always enjoy Lent, so that’s what I’ve been trying to focus on to take my mind off the pain. It helps to have John, who can bring me bottled water and ice packs (yes, ice packs – they work better than heat for me) and two snuggly dogs to keep me company.

John and I watched Top Gun one day – he’d never seen it before. By the end he was amazed at how many references there are in everyday life to that one movie. I was amazed that once you visualize Tom Cruise standing on a box to look taller you just can’t un-see it.

Here’s hoping next week will be warmer and busier – but in a good way!
