Yesterday I had a myelogram as part of my ongoing quest to find the source of this neck pain and treat it.  I’d had one a couple of years ago, between my first and second neurosurgeries, and remembered it as being quite uncomfortable – more discomfort than I had with the surgeries, actually.  Yesterday’s wasn’t bad.  I’m not sure if this was because I knew what to expect, or because I’d loaded up on the caffeine beforehand (flushes the dye and decreases the headache), or because I’ve been in constant pain for so long I’ve gotten used to it.  Probably the latter, unfortunately.

Anywho, after the covering of your spinal cord is punctured you have to rest for 24 hours to let it heal so you don’t develop a cerebrospinal fluid leak.  I’m not sure exactly why that would be so catastrophic – it makes me think of Ghostbusters:  “Don’t cross the streams!”  “Why?”  “It would be bad!”  Okey-dokey.  So here I am on bedrest, feeling guilty because a co-worker had to get up at the buttcrack of dawn and show up at the hospital at 4:30 this morning to cover for me.  Sorry, Tiffany!  Meanwhile, I’m lounging in my jammies, trying to convince myself that it’s important to stay in bed and be still when I’m so hyped up on caffeine I feel like a Chihuahua on meth.

But I’m not lonely – anything but!  This bed contains not only me, but Sam, Boss, Irving, and “The Precious”.  Before you think anything kinky’s going on let me introduce you:

Sam and Boss
Irving the Netbook and The Precious, my iPhone

So what would you do with an unexpected 24 hours of bedrest?  I’m reading, watching movies, and doing a few blog posts to save for a dry spell.  I’ll clean out my Google Reader and my email inbox . . . maybe.  It’s only 24 hours, after all!

  1. Ugh! That doesn’t sound like any fun at all. Not one bit of it! Although a day alone w/my computer might actually be nice. But 24 hours is really a long time to just be still. Yeah…I would definitely flunk that test! Hope you’re feeling much ,much better soon!
