Happy Belated Blogiversary to Me!

Yes, I’m a slacker blogger and missed my first blogiversary. It was in late June, so I’m about a month off. Oh, well. WHY did I start blogging a little over a year ago? Because my friend Dianna was doing it and having a lot of fun, and I was really enjoying reading other people’s blog posts, and I wanted to join in some memes! What have I learned about blogging in the past 13 months?
1.) It’s addictive. Potential posts run through my head all day long. I write notes about blog posts I want to write on my patient list at work, and get out of bed to write them down at night.
2.) It’s better when it’s shared. Since starting my blog I’ve set up blogs for three friends, my aunt, my husband, and my father-in-law.
3.) It’s part of the family. One of Aaron’s teachers hit my site (by accident – looking for a school event) and asked him about it. My husband and children hacked my site after I’d gone to bed to do a birthday post for me. I have even apologized for the behavior of family members on the blog.
4.) It’s a great way to make new friends. Not only “blog friends” that you communicate with through emails, comments, and tweets, but “in real life” friends, especially when you meet up at wonderful conferences like Bloggy Boot Camp.
5.) Blogging and Twitter go together like peas and carrots! I only started tweeting in preparation for Bloggy Boot Camp, but now I so totally love it I just don’t know how I got through the day without it before.
6.) Memes are a totally awesome cure for writer’s block. No matter what it is you want to talk about, someone’s got a meme for you. Everything from F*%# You Friday to Saints and Scripture Sunday is available, so hunt it down and link up, bay-bee!
7.) There are many people who “don’t get” blogging. They will tell you it’s a self-absorbed time-sucker for attention-seeking slackers. Ignore them. They probably spend their free time watching reruns on TV.
8.) Blogging enriches your life. I find frugal shopping tips, recipes, parenting advice, photography tutorials, decorating ideas, EVERYTHING on blogs I follow. Just off the top of my head, within the past week I’ve read posts about how to cook wild daylily bulbs (they taste like asparagus), how to shave and trim your girlie parts (sorry, it was a great post but I can’t find the link), and the patron saint of Christian wives.

Blogging totally rocks, and since I’m posting this on Friday night I’m planning to link up Saturday to Lady Bloggers Tea Party and Virtual Girls’ Night Out, ’cause I make new friends that way!

  1. Happy blogiversary! I love it to for many of the same reasons. I started because I wanted weight loss motivation and had no idea what a great community was out here.

  2. Some people in this world are "documenters." We bloggers are the ones who take pictures, write the Christmas newsletters, keep the scrapbooks. People might make fun of us, but we are the historians who maintain family traditions and celebrate the small moments. And there's no shame in that!

    Great post!

  3. Oh, my gosh! How in the world has it been a year, already?

I'm seriously SO glad that you decided to join me in this crazy world … I've always said you were funny enough to make a dog laugh, so I KNEW your stories needed to be shared.

    Love you, and congratulations!
