Have You Read "The Shack"? Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop

OK, my first try with a Mama Kat Writer’s Workshop prompt, this one really jumped out at me!

5.)Describe what brought you closer to your faith.

I just finished reading “The Shack”, and it really challenged some of my preconceived notions about spirituality. So many of the concepts I thought, “Yeah, that’s what I believe, but I couldn’t have expressed it that clearly!” I’m currently between churches, hunting for the right one for me and my family, and I don’t really want to settle for just any church, I want to be part of one that really feels like a “church home”. This book helped me realize that it’s my personal relationship with God that’s important, not all the details I am so easily caught up in. Sooo, I’m now trying to become more trusting and forgiving in all my relationships instead of my cynical, judgemental self in hopes that this will, when the time is right, lead me to the right church community for us.

  1. excellent post! You know, I'm the one who preaches church, but yet can't make it to Mass …. sigh

  2. We have yet to find a church that feels like home for us so I can relate to what you've written. So far the ones we've been too just feel like they want something from us, kwim? Like how much money can we give them, how much time can we volunteer to specific activities and programs. And then there are churches which are cliquey and if you haven't been there from the beginning, you'll always feel like an outsider.

I do hope you and your family will find a place that you like. For now, I just try to remind myself that it's not about WHERE I worship or pray but it's more about my relationship with God. I could be having my time with Him in the coat closet and I know that would be okay!
