Iced Coffee and Drumline

It’s hot.  As of today, I’m officially switching to iced coffee instead of hot coffee.  I use Pioneer Woman’s iced coffee recipe, and if you haven’t tried it yet you should.  I will still use my new coffee maker occasionally, though.  Even on hot days a cup of coffee gets me moving better than a glass of coffee.  I’m sure it’s purely psychological, but whatever works!  I do love my new coffee maker – it’s perfect if you’re the only coffee drinker in your house or if you are clumsy like me and tend to break glass carafes.

John is almost done with school, which means they haven’t done anything worthwhile in about two weeks.  I stopped asking him about what he did at school after a day earlier this week when the most educational portion of the day was when he taught the rest of his class to play Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock. *sigh*

The lack of academic activity has an upside, though.  John has had more time to practice for marching band.  He’ll be marching fourth base as a Freshman in the Fall, which is quite respectable.  It’s also what Aaron marched as a Freshman 🙂  John also impressed his percussion instructor by being the first to recognize YYZ on the snare (thanks, Dad), and the first to have watched Drumline (thanks, Mom).  There are advantages to coming from a percussion-oriented family.  Not the least of is that I get annoyed if I don’t hear someone tapping out a rhythm on something around the house.

I was thrilled to find my favorite variety of million bells this week – Tequila Sunrise.  They only had two plants, both a bit straggly, but I put them in a hanging pot and am watering them lovingly, anxiously awaiting those gorgeous blooms!

Any other “Smash” addicts out there?  I may have to buy this season when it comes out on DVD, because I loved it so much.  And the season finale was perfect.  Viewers got a hint of their happily-ever-after, but were still left wanting more next season.  There will be a next season, won’t there???

We’re about to switch from our current cable provider for financial reasons, and have been looking at all the options, which are rather overwhelming.  Oddly enough, John and I both had the same requirements: We must have AMC for “The Walking Dead”, and we could live without BBC America if the price difference was huge, but if it wasn’t we didn’t want to give up “Dr. Who”.  Michael’s preferences are a bit more complex (PGA tournaments and college basketball), but we’re narrowing it down.  The current favorite is Dish Network, but we’re open to suggestions.  Do you have cable or if not how do you stream what you want to watch?

The newlyweds are back from their honeymoon, by the way, and hard at work.  I’m so proud of both of them, and so happy.  I can’t even look at them without grinning ear-to-ear!

  1. A few months ago we switched from DirecTV to cable. DirecTV was notorious for going out if it was raining, windy or sometimes just cloudy, or sometimes random Tuesdays, and I’ve heard the same about Dish. We JUST got Netflix and we have a couple Roku boxes, and we are seriously contemplating dropping the cable and getting an analog antenna for local stations, which would eliminate the “tv” bill altogether, except for the Netflix subscription. I tend to tune out when R is talking about this stuff, (it’s Charlie Brown’s teacher all the way) but I do remember asking “Will I still be able to watch my zombies?” and he said “Of course.” I don’t know exactly how though.

  2. Netflix. They have Doctor Who, you’ll be a season behind but you can watch ‘Blink’ as often as you want. Lots of other stuff to watch in the meantime, including a lot of BBC programmes. Seriously, for less than $10 a month (and no adverts to interrupt) I’m glad I changed.

    1. “Blink” is so awesome. Whatever we do WILL include Netflix. It’s my go-to when it’s the middle of the night and I can’t sleep.
