Joan’s Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies and Books!

I am not a huge chocolate chip cookie fan, but I couldn’t get enough of these when Joan brought them to a Louisville Romance Writers meeting! Thankfully, she’d already typed up the recipe to go out in her next news letter, which was just in time for me to bake them for Thanksgiving. They were are a huge hit.

  1. 1 cup butter, melted (she really means melted, not just softened)
  2. 1 cup brown sugar
  3. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  4. 2 eggs
  5. 1 Tbsp vanilla
  6. 2 tsp cream of tartar
  7. 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt
  8. 2 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  9. 1 bag mini chocolate chips
  • Blend butter and sugars together. Add eggs. “Moosh” a little. Throw in everything else (chips last). Drop by scoopfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 400 degrees 9-11 minutes or until edges lightly brown.
  • Allow to cool a few minutes before transferring to rack.
  • SECRET: Use only a spatula and do not over-moosh.

I made these cookies with my Pampered Chef large scoop the first time and my small scoop the second time. I can’t really decide which is my favorite. You’ll have to try both ways and let me know what you think. And here are some good books to read while you’re baking and eating Joan’s cookies, because she created these as well! They are fabulous historical romances set in Roman times, and are the perfect escape for a cold winter night 🙂
