One of the Writers’ Workshop prompts over at Mama Kat‘s this week is “Ten Favorite Things About One of Your Favorite People”. I’m listing my ten favorite things about my husband, Michael – mainly because I’ve been so stinkin’ mean and nasty to him for the last month that he deserves some positive reinforcement. We’ve been married almost twenty-five years, and sometimes he drives me totally batshit crazy, but I probably drive him batshit crazy more often . . . at least recently. So here goes:
.) He’s a wonderful father. There’s no way to know what kind of parent someone will be when you marry them. Especially when you marry young, like we did, it’s a leap of faith. Michael has been utterly devoted to our boys since day one.
.) He’s laid-back. Since I am a raging Type-A, OCD, anal-retentive control freak (and those are my good qualities) this balances our lives nicely.
.) He loves our furry children just as much as I do. He didn’t have any pets growing up, but he adored our cats when we were newlyweds and then fell head-over-heels for our first chocolate lab puppy, and the rest is history.
.) He enjoys goofy movies as much as I do. I can’t sit through his historical stuff, and he cringes at the thought of my musicals or foreign films, but we can both quote pretty much the entire script of every Mel Brooks movie (except Robin Hood – Men in Tights . . . that was just stupid).
.) His musical ability (see picture above). I have a complete lack of musical skills, so I’m grateful that both our children inherited this talent from their father.
.) He has a GPS in his head. I totally lack a sense of direction, so without Michael I would never be able to leave town.
.) He doesn’t feel a need to always be right. This makes our life much easier, since I pretty much always have to be right.
.) His mother was one of my favorite people in the world. When he says or does something that reminds me of her I love him that much more.
.) He’s patient. I am probably the most impatient person on the face of the earth, so without him I would surely lose all perspective.
.) He thinks I’m beautiful. God bless him, I even went with him last time he had his eyes checked and got new glasses, so I know it’s not a visual problem. It must be love 🙂
