Rest ~ Saints and Scripture Sunday

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Rest, sleep, nap. Those are beautiful words to me. Is there any thing that feels better than slipping between cool, soft, sheets, pulling a quilt over you, laying your head on that perfect pillow, and going to sleep? And there are few things more miserable than not being able to get the sleep you need. Maybe you have an infant in the house, or a sick toddler. Maybe your teenager is out later than they should be, or your elderly parent has started wandering during the night. Perhaps your dog is pacing the floor whining and you don’t know if he’s sick, a storm is coming, or a serial killer is camped out in your backyard. Maybe your husband is out of town and you can’t sleep alone, or your husband is snoring and you can’t sleep with him. Maybe there are just too many thoughts running through your head – things you can’t do anything about at midnight, but that you can’t stop thinking about. Perhaps the pain is just too much.

I promise myself “a good night’s sleep” the way some people promise themselves a hot fudge sundae or a shopping spree to get through difficult times. I interpret this verse as God promising us rest – not necessarily tonight, but sometime soon. Our hard work and sacrifice has been noted, and our rest is coming.

Sam, of course, has turned resting into a full-time occupation. Share you favorite Saints and Scripture every Sunday with Dianna at the Kennedy Adventures.

  1. You are so right about rest. I think I need a time management course or a few lessons from Sam. She only worries about the important stuff, food, shelter and play.

  2. Ah, Sam, how that's a devoted doggy.

p.s.~ Had John's pick up line included Velveeta, I would have married him. That's just the way I was raised.
